Should You Use A Fake Security Camera?

If you cannot afford a security alarm system for your home or business, would it be a good idea to use a fake security camera? This is a very common question that you have to ask yourself when it concerns the safety of your home. There are certainly times when a fake security camera can act as a deterrent against crime and many people use them. A lot of stores use the fake cameras for retail security. They are not very expensive and to the common uneducated criminal, they will never be able to tell a difference. It’s a matter of choice. My personal choice is to use an actual security system with a real security camera because of my business and my family. If anything were to ever happen, I would want a video recording of an incident to report to the police.

If you live in an area where there is not a lot of crime, but you just want it to look as if you have home security, then a fake security system with a dummy camera may suit you well and you will not have to spend any money on a security system. My wife’s parents live out in the country and they are almost always home. They have never had any problem with crime or a break in. What they did was to order some fake security system stickers and put it on their door. It looks as if they have a security system for any would-be intruders. I think the stickers were less than $5 a piece and they feel better about having it there. Dummy cameras are always a good idea regardless of your budget. Nothing wrong with placing imitation cameras in full view of the bad guys.

Fake Security Camera Signs

In my case, I have a small sign in the hedge row of my bushes next to my house that warns I have a home security alarm system with security cameras doing surveillance on the property. I want the bad guys to be warned ahead of time. I do not want them to target my home and the warning signs are there for a reason. My cameras are for real also. My security cameras are motion detector cameras and they turn on with any movement they sense.

I think it comes down to a personal decision as to use a real or fake security camera. If you do not have much money for a real security system, then by all means use a fake camera. A fake security camera is much better than no camera at all. You can buy fake cameras online at Amazon and some other online retailers. I would first check your yellow pages for some local security cameras and find out if they are discarding any of their older or broken cameras. Sometimes they will give them to you if you go pick them up. You can usually install them very easily with just a couple of screws and from the ground they look real. It’s an easy job for anyone who is a little handy around the house. Using a fake security camera is the most inexpensive way to to at least convey the appearance of a home security system.
